The best demonstration of my faith in AMAT is that in Oct 97 I bought some more at 31 1/4, and if it goes down into the 27-28 range I might cost average with some more.

I'm more of a happy investor than a knowledgeable one! But as an engineer, I tend to look at the technical reputation and competence of the company. With reference to a previous post, I started out as a "rocket scientist" before switching to aircraft acoustics with NASA.

As long as we are in this rapid growth in electronics and computer applications, I think AMAT is so well positioned that it should continue this pattern of growth for quite a few years. The only thing that puzzles me is that it is so volatile when I think of its products as being the basic "tools" of the whole industry. But then, what do I know of business cycles? I'm not a chart expert, and I don't get too excited when there is a temporary lull or downturn.

So I guess what I can contribute is some optimism for the long haul, without enough study to quantify the growth rate. Hope this is a little help.
