My point was the disparity of severities. Even if somebody called the cops, the cop would probably let me off with a short lecture, followed by &#147Move along, buddy&#148. I can increase this probability by being exceedingly polite and cooperative with the officer&#151maybe explain that I had been drinking a little bit, but it certainly wouldn't happen again.

Unless there are some other circumstances&#151perhaps a sex crime on the record, cops have better things to do than running off Beavis tryin' to score. And they encounter enough jerks throughout the day, that a reasonable showing of respect and politeness (and a clean record) can often get you out of smaller, "nuisance offenses" like this.

My name wouldn't make the paper. Unlikely my coworkers would know (especially since I work at home, alone) unless it was a very small town. The impact on my life would be minimal.
