It is easy to encourage people buy more computers. The reason people buy computers is because of applications available , so if they do not have a computer at home , they can not enjoy the new applications, and will have an impact on their life. Those applications icluded: 1) Interative computer games, those games you can play remotely through the internet with your friends, examples: chest, Lasvegas type gambling ...etc. If you want to enjoy these games, you must have a computer at home, so the parents will buy PCs for the kids. 2) Remote education. With the technology advanced, pretty soon, people do not have to go to school physically , they can just stay home , sitting in front of the computers to attend the class in real time. Students in Japan can take classes offered by MIT through the internet. What they need are computers and access through the NET. 3) Remote shopping. With visual department store implemented in the net, people can just do shopping on the NET, and companies like DHL, UPS will boom. Pretty soon, I can just stay home and place an order for my DVD player on the NET, and the product will be delivered to me by UPS from Japan in less than three days. ...... SO, it is the applications which drive the hard ware development , not the other way. If the applications are not there, the advanced hardwares are just kind of waste. The PC market will continue to grow fast , but most of them probably are not at the high end areas. Most people do not buy PCs for engineering applications, such as design a circuit with 100 MM transistors. INTEL have to promote the high end applications in the market to promote its high end CPUs, otherwise, all those effort to push for high end hardware are just waste time and money.
