<<< Sorry that I assumed that an associate at MSU might have a passing interest in the Spartan's success
on the basketball court considering how much revenue the basketball and football brings in. I have to
think that the athletic department may bring a couple of dollars more than say the math department. >>>

Interesting that you view a university as a corporation. Even if you take this perverse stance, the important thing should be profit, not revenues. Many big-time athletic programs actually LOSE money. Someone once tried to do a study of MSU's football program. The administration would not let the financial details out. Why not, if it's such a money-maker? This is a hush-hush topic that few know about.

You need only ask yourself a basic question: What has contributed more to our knowledge of the world, mathematics or college basketball? Last time I checked, knowledge was the goal of an institution of higher learning.

College sports has been an important contributor to the dumbing down of education in this country. It started out fine (some sports contests between very small schools at the turn of the century), but it has grown into something truly horrific. It would be a wonderful thing if all of it was eliminated.

There's my rant. Oh yes, the stock. Well my friends don't mind what I'm saying here. They're kind of laughing. They have actual senses of humor, Stums.
