Zeev, I agree that the Federal Reserve would like to see the market gradually deflate, since it's stated goal is economic and price stability. The problem is the longer they wait, the higher the market will go. As long as the Fed stays neutral, the market interprets this as a green light. Since Greenspan does not want to be remembered as the man who poisoned the money tree, he will wait for external forces to prevail, and then try to cushion the blow. Since a lot of the market participants perceive that he is waiting in the wings to rescue them, they can afford to take chances. This is a primary reason why I quit buying puts on the S&P, and now focus on shorting individual stocks.
