Yes you are right, I am saying that Ford can't buy as big a chunk of UTX, as they can Ballard. It's a nice option for Ford to make a huge bet on Ballard, b/c

1. it's cheaper to take a large stake in Ballard stock than UTX.
2. UTX's management would probably object to having Ford having such a huge stake in their company, although limited collaboration would be beneficial to both parties.
3. Ford is wise in not betting on only one technology and one company.

Also, the fuel cell technology is not what UTX is all about. If Ford were to take a stake in UTX like they did BLD, it would be for different reasons - most likely the fuel cell aspect of UTX is small relative to their other business interest, whereas as far as I know the fuel cell technology is what Ballard is entirely about.

I am saying Ford is taking a big stake in Ballard, not only b/c it would be foolish not to (not place all your bets on one technology), but b/c they can - based on market cap of Ballard compared to UTX. No one's stopping Ford from investing in the competiting technology.

I am not saying that UTX's fuel cell is better than BLD's, I don't know enough to claim this. However, although Ford's investment in BLD is positive, it does not necessarily say that UTX's fuel cell is inferior to Ballard's. Although you can speculate on this point, this is what you seem to strongly infer with your rhetoric. It's not logic, it's just speculation, but you would be well rewarded if you were right.
