i hate like hell to agree, but frankly, with rare exception,
the trading makes me queasy...and there is a distinct sin
of omission by management; if we were to take them at
their word on that eventful announcement day...what was
it " over the next couple of weeks" and press releases
about new contracts, etc were expected...

i feel disallusioned. anyone else?

Steve I have to take an opposing view.....

You ask:

"What happened to the 50 sales people?"

I don't recall them saying sales people. What I remember is engineers, I even remember them saying there was a problem getting the quality of people because of there is a shortage to fill the demand.

Here is what I did see in the Q3 report in referrence to sales staffing:

Sales:

Selling and Marketing Expense. Selling and marketing expense consists
primarily of salaries for sales and marketing personnel, travel, advertising and
promotion, recruiting, and facilities expense. Selling and marketing expense
increased 239% from $178,568 in the third quarter of 1996 to $605,016 in the
current year quarter. For the nine month period ended September 30, sales and
marketing expense increased 189% from $509,117 in 1996 to $1,472,006 in 1997.For
the three and nine month periods, the increase is primarily due to: (i) the
addition of sales staff to establish channels of distribution for the Company's
products and technology, (ii) the addition of marketing staff, and (iii)
increased levels of advertising and promotion to create awareness for the
Company's products, including participation in major industry tradeshows. The
Company anticipates that selling and marketing spending will continue to grow in
future periods.

In regard to a manufacturing facility...Aware has said it is putting something together with a major brand OEM and we should be hearing about that soon. I think it will be 3Com/USR. This is based on an April 97 release stating they were working on products using Aware's DMT.

You asked:

"Why no news lately?"

Aware doesn't have a steady flow of news being released...I think what's happening is the norm...rather than like January & Feb. when there was a surge oe releases.

"CEO upsets xDSL players recently."

One person wrote about their opinion on this...and others quoted or referred to it. Never did anyone mention any fact or names of companies upset. I do believe Bender was more eager than others about UAWG, but that's likely because it's a big event for Aware and routine for others like LU, MSFT, 3Com and others.

"Relationship with ADI loosened significantly. Why? Very disturbing."

No...not at all! If you read the Aware filings you'll find that in 96 Aware spells out the relationship with ADI and how it's structured. The way I read it...any deal Aware makes with other companies, ADI gets it on the same or better terms.

Any loosening of the ADI/AWRE relationship allows AWRE more freedom in making deals with others.

Since 3Com made deals with AWRE and ADI independently something may be brewing there.

As far as deployments go...there really isn't much at all out there...yet.

"Recently the CEO mentioned receiving direction from "the board". Now that sounds to me like there may be some problems deciding what to do."

Could you elaborate on that please? Sounds to me that it could also be encouraging...rather than negitive. Nor is it out of the norm for a CEO to receive direction of the board.

Hope that my opposing view has provided some food for thought.

Regards,

Scrapps
