NEWS RELEASE March 16, 1998 DataWave & AT&T SIGN Exclusive Deal To Provide Pre-Paid Long Distance Service To Hospitals Throughout U.S. Vancouver, B.C. March 16, 1998 (OTCBB:DWVSF, VSE: DTV.V) -- DataWave Systems Inc., manufacturers of the worldOs only intelligent prepaid calling card dispensers, have signed an agreement with the AHA TelePLAN (AHA) to distribute AT&T prepaid long-distance cards to American Hospital Association members throughout the United States. With this agreement, AT&T will have the exclusive right to sell their prepaid long-distance calling cards through DataWaveOs proprietary Telecard Merchandisers (DTMs) in over 6000 AHA hospitals across the U.S. The electronic DTMs dispense and activate the cards at the point-of-sale at the time of purchase. This unique OPoint-of-Sale ActivationO eliminates inventory control problems previously associated with calling card sales, while offering a wider range of calling card denominations. According to John Bisinger, Vice-President of AHA TelePLAN, OThis new AT&T/DataWave program will provide a valuable service to the millions of patients, medical staff and visitors who pass through AHA hospitals every year.O Though individual AHA hospitals must negotiate their contracts independently, 50 have already signed onto the AT&T/DataWave program, including the Adirondack Medical Center, which serves the U.S. Winter Olympic Team. As Mr. Bisinger notes, OGiven that there is currently no similar risk-free pre-paid vending programs for hospitals in place, and that the DataWave systems generate additional revenue for the hospitals, we expect many of them to sign on.O Commenting on the success of the new AT&T/DataWave program, Mr. Mark Evans, Director of AT&T PrePaid Cards, notes OThis new program, relying on the DataWave technology, will give AT&T access to a number of very substantial segments of the prepaid calling card market. We fully expect this to be one of many such contracts as we continue to aggressively pursue the prepaid calling card business.O AT&T Corporation is the leading provider of long-distance and wireless services in the U.S., with the worldOs largest and most sophisticated communications network. AT&T serves more than 90 million customers in the U.S. alone, and operates in over 200 countries worldwide. According to Clive Barwin, President of DataWave, OThis agreement with the AHA TelePLAN represents a tremendous opportunity to put our machines into a great number of locations that are ideally suited to the sale of prepaid calling cards. With this new joint AT&T/DataWave relationship, I believe this is just the start of the many such agreements that are yet to come.O DataWave distributes its prepaid products in excess of 5000 retail locations in the U.S. and Canada.
