Carl: if unemployment were to rise dramatically, funds would be cashed in. It seems that one thing bear markets have in common is high unemployment. The bottoms come when people pull all their retirement money out of the market to live on. This was certainly the case in 1929. I don't see signs of this on the horizon-yet.
