I've noticed this too, I think.

It's having both negative and positive impact, IMHO. There
are newbies posting with intelligence and fresh thoughts,
and there are those posting with the worst of us, of which
we also had our share before the trials began, I think you'll
agree.

I've only been a member since last summer myself, and,
truth to tell, I was VERY reluctant to ante up the $75 price
at the time, simply because I didn't know if it would be
worth it. A trial would have made the decision simple, and
by the end of a couple of weeks, I would've paid
more than that gladly. (And now I'm going to S.I.Anonymous
sessions to try to break the habit <ggg>.)

I think the trials are good marketing and we should live with it.
The Dryers have to earn a living to keep giving us our SI fix
(at least it's legal so far). I don't know that it will
have long-term negative impact as far as the quality of
discussion is concerned, and it may end up positive.

Richard,

Thanks for the feedback. When we started the trial, we didn't really know what to expect. The effect so far, I believe, has been much more positive than negative. From our vantage point, the majority of the trial members are posting some great stuff, while a few are trying to ruin it (and a few more, unintentionally).

As Spot pointed out, a lot of people have wanted to give SI a test drive but have been hesitant to, and a lot of these people should be a part of SI.

We'll pull the trial within the next few weeks, digest the recent influx, and then see where we are.

4 weeks after we stop the trial, all of the new members will either have joined or left. This won't be a permanent "free trial". I can't say we won't do it again at some point, but I can guarantee we're still as concerned about quality as ever. We're certainly working harder than usual these days because the customer support load has doubled.
