Dave,

Larry Waechtel of Prudential Securities said on CNBC today that he would buy Gateway instead of "high risk" Dell.

The low volume and upside price resistance today when Nasdaq is up 17 and Dow 100+ tells me that most of the buying are done by individual investors, and money managers waiting patiently to sell.

D.

re...> In some ways they outdo
DELL in BTO. The piece parts don't even enter the factory. UPS
brings the parts (monitor, keyboard, etc.) together in w warehouse
just before delivery to customer.<

Dell's monitors are shipped directly from Sony's factory and never are part of inventory. I assume but don't know that the same is true for the speakers.

re...>It seems like GTW has a lot more room to grow without
bumping into the big boys and having to offer enterprise-wide
solutions (i.e. businesses are getting tired of buying single parts
of a network; they want a single vendor to provide the client, server,
and if possible LAN/WAN so that the liability for performance is on
the vendor vs. customer).<

Why Do Boeing, Eastman Chemical, Ford and others buy Dells? Because Dell does offer total systems. Dell has 6 or more employees who spend all their time at Boeing helping to design and implement Boeing's IT.
