Mohan,

shoot, you beat to the punch., I meant to reference this article in my final comments on DEC. But I did not have the link though only an email of the text. This is an interesting article in Harvard Business Review that bears repeating, so..........

upside.com

check it out folks! but as mohan says, just one man's opinion (althugh I would concur with most of what is in the arcticle) so lets make that two men's opinion, me and the author. anybody else to add to the list?

Jason

The analyst's opinion regarding cpq reminds me of those regarding Oracle. Some predicted that oracle's database business was fading away due to the lack of flexibility of Oracle's produts and the business in general being outdated and so forth (plenty of such opinions on cnet) those analysts simply dissappeared or changed mouth.

That's an accurate picture of the general attitude levelled against DEC. Cpq picks of a lot of negative opinion in the acquisition, no doubt about it. As to whether Dec service will still handle Dell products, that is rather silly. Now that DEC has no networking components and maintains a source-level expertise with NT, the two most troublesome aspects of the installations are covered without conflict of interest. I think PC maintenance has become an Oxymoron. If a PC ever recovers the durability beyond that of a BIC disposable shaver, then it might become relevant.
