Mark, These are most difficult questions to answer. I do know that the recovery rate from alcoholism is very small. Something like 1 out of 30 recover. I surmise that you are also saying that homosexuality is a disease. Therefore they are not responsible for their actions and God should not hold either a drunk(alcoholic) or a gay person responsible for their actions.
The problem is not the actions of the diseases. The problem centers in the mind and should they decide that they are in need of a Savior then their dilemma is complete. God's Word says they are condemned if they continue in such behavior. Their mind has an uncontrollable urge to continue the behavior. My belief is that both behaviors are learned and can be unlearned through the Grace of God. If you sincerely receive God as your Savior He will show you a way out. For the alcoholic it is putting the plug in the jug and for the Gay person it is staying straight while leaning on Jesus as support.
It works for all provided they want it.
James

mark,
There are genetic abnormalities that come out in people. The mentally and physically handicapped are born the way they are. But God did not make them that way, something went wrong. The DNA was flawed in some way. If we look for any condemnation from the word of God for them because they are the way they are, we will find none.

But if we check the word of God it very clearly and without question speaks against the practice of homosexuality. It is a sin, an abomination practiced by those of a depraved mind. That's what the word of God says about it. Those who despise the word will be in debt to it. If we don't like what it says we have to change. Homosexuality is a learned behavior like any sin. By whatever we are overcome by that we are enslaved, sin leading to death, or obedience to God leading to life in Christ Jesus.
