VRSN seems to be doing pretty good. I expect VRSN to do 200% in 1998
and 400% in 1999. This is due to the fact that HP, IBM, Sun, MSFT,
Netscape and everyother big boy on the corner are working together to develop OTP (Open Trading Protocol). Go to:
ibm.com for more information. VRSN provides digital certificates which SET uses for internet
authentication and security. SET (a global internet standard) will be combined with OTP.
VRSN is a spin-off of RSA (www.rsa.com) security. The major players at RSA left and started their own business (VRSN). Now VRSN provides a crucial element that RSA needs.... Digital certificates. RSA cryptography will utilize digital certificates. So, the
puzzle looks like this:
"Secure" Ecommerce (Internet Business) needs OTP, OTP will use SET, SET will use RSA, RSA will use VRSN.
Now the issue is, there are no rules/standards for Internet Business. So OTP is being developed by all the major players to standardize
things. When the "Internet Steering Committee" approves it and makes it a standard (soon). Digital ID's are the future of ecommerce. VRSN is going to play a very important role. However, once the ID's are issued, what's next? ID maintenance.... boring. VRSN is no MSFT, it's just a hot flash in the pan. So get yer meat and vegies and start cook'in. Bought @ 26, my dinners ready..... ding.
