Kevin, while your mom's purchase doesn't fit the conventional wisdom, you made a good decision. Who ever said that conventional wisdom was worth a hoot anyway? I can't believe the baloney I read about asset allocation as one reaches the retirement years. The key is stock selection, not income producing or asset allocation between cash, stocks, bonds, etc.

What really fries me is those high falooting sellf-important snoots with who say with their noses in the air that you should own overseas stocks for "protection" plus throw in a little gold "just in case". We know what happened to the Asian stocks but the bigger issues with foreign stocks are accounting principles, liquidity of markets, herd mentality and lack of info.

Kudos to your mom. She'll think you're a stock genius a year from now. Who knows? Maybe you are.

Arnie

Al G., Gates owns the world, Nextel owns air, but not the kind we breathe.
