I don't think relative rankings now are an important indicator for what search engines will be successful in the long run. So SEEK is 4th out of 4, so what does that mean? Only that they are receiving less press, and possibly lower current revenues (both positive and negative), and that is reflected, I believe, in its stock price. The key, though, is that switching costs to the consumer is 0! If the internet browser does not like Yahoo, or another engine, they click over to SEEK and use it for no switching cost. That means that overnight, SEEK can go from 4 to 1 in eyeballs. Guess how long it would take for advertisers to notice that? It is yet way too early to know who the winners will be at this early stage, and I think SEEK is in as good a long-term position as any of them, and at a lower price. The only way SEEK loses is if Exporer or Netscape lock in some other viewer and keep SEEK out. Fat chance.
