Mon 16 Mar 98 News Release
Mr Bernard Kahlert reports
Cameco Gold Inc, a subsidiary of Cameco Corporation, has notified Major
General that drilling has started on the Despinassy gold property, 75km
north of Val d'Or, Quebec. The property consists of 25 claims (2,430 acres)
and covers mafic and felsic volcanic rocks that host Abitibi style gold
mineralization.
Cameco has planned a program consisting of seven diamond drill holes for a
total of 1,200m. The program is designed to test targets that were outlined
in the 30km IP survey completed by Cameco earlier this year.
The property hosts an extensive gold-bearing deformation zone that was
partially drill tested by both Soquem and Umex in the 1970s and 1980s. Most
of the 14 shallow holes previously drilled intersected multiple gold veins
grading over 1 g/t. The potential for higher grade mineralization is
significant as evidenced by two drill intercepts that returned gold values
of 1.65 g/t over 0.7m and 8.1 g/t over 1.5m.
Logistics are excellent as the property is bounded by a highway to the
south and the Chibougamau rail line 4km to the east.
Cameco may earn a 60% interest in the Despinassy property by making
exploration expenditures over three years.
