I have been unable to understand why Gstrf will not take most of Iridium's tarket market, once G* becomes available.

It seems to me that G* is not only service cheaper, but also has smaller handsets, longer battery life, and deals better with indoors reception (due to multipath nature of CDMA).

I can see the DOD preferring I* due to its single (DOD controlled) gateway enable architecture. (I.e., can send a call from a handset the Persian gulf to the USA that only touches the terra firma network once it hits the US of A.) But that's a pretty limited market, I would have thought. (Probably even much of the DOD use will end up being not so network independent critical, and will use Gstrf. E.g., service men calling home from the Gulf.)
