Bill, I guess someone should get an official read from Citrix on this, but my read is that Winframe is licensed on a "per seat" basis and each potential user is a seat, whether or not they happen to be connected at the moment. If an installation has 100 terminals, I think a 100 user license is required even though perhaps only 50 will be active users at any given moment.

Can you quote something to back up the position of only having to have licenses for the simultaneous connections in use?

From what I've read licensing is per concurrent user. This is what makes this product so enticing for large field use -- 500 potential users, but only 50 on average at any one time net savings of 450 licenses = major savings!!!!!

Bill, now that I have read your profile, I certainly believe your statement that the Winframe license limit is per simultaneous user and that certainly does increase product value! Thanks for the info.

Now let's solve our other question on licenses. A Winframe server is licensed for 10 users. There are 20 users with ID's, but only 10 can be logged on at once. The server has MS Excel installed and available o all the users, but no more than 5 will be using it simultaneously. How many MS Excel licenses are required?

a. 1 license
b. 5 licenses
c. 10 licenses
d. 20 licenses

Our legal staff says the smaller of c. or d. which in this case would be 10. What is your opinion?
