Sorry, if I was confusing in my message. You can sell your stock anytime, no restrictions.

Okay, xyz splits tonight 2-for-1, you have 100 xyz. Tomorrow, the Ex-date, the stock will start trading half of today's closing price and you will own 200 xyz.

If you want to sell your 100 xyz today, no problamo. If you want to sell your 200 xyz tomorrow, no problamo either.

Only catch is your account is not automated until -tomorrow night-. No one restricts you from trading the stock though. I'm not going to talk for all brokerage houses. If I were to sell my 200 xyz tomorrow using Fidelity, I can't use webexpress. I have to call a rep to place the order. Day after tomorrow, I can use webexpress to place an order to sell 200 xyz though.

Hope this is clear.
