So you think Pentium IIs are as fast as the new G3s "more or less" do you? FYI: apple.com. BTW, the 300MHz G3's are just being introduced. The performance gap continues to widen.

Don't like the snail or bunny ads either? Think they don't impress the computer buying public? Wrong again. Apple seems to have finally rediscovered the correlation between sales and advertising. G3 sales are robust by all accounts.

infoseek.com is a pretty fair analysis of the current state of affairs.

You need a no-brainer.

I agree with you and, in fact, that's why I think the ad is so successful. It makes only one point, that Macs are faster, and it makes it well (IMHO). People tend to be very hung up on processor speed, so it's a good point to make.

On another note: The way Dreyfuss says "and the fact remains" in the bunny ad almost makes it seem like Apple is baiting Intel. Like they want Intel to challenge, and then come out with an even faster chip. Intel is smart not to say anything. The publicity would only be bad for them.

Sorry Bill,

You are way wrong. G3s smoke the Pentium IIs, and at a lower price.

I had no apple friends when I bought. I just did a hell of a lot of comparing. But you are right about uneducated consumers. The scuzzy buss is the one they always forget about. I constantly have to explain to WinTel folks at our lab that the zips on the Intergraphs are useless & that not only can they use their Windows zip disks on Macs but the transfer speed is 5X as fast. They're usually skeptical. I never even try to use zips on the WinTel side. Too risky, corruption etc. Had one Wintel zip disk, with folders that wouldn't delete and other problems. It's just not worth the hassle. It is the same with scanners, printers etc. The Wintel boxes are always a headache to the monitors here at UCLA. Sometimes, though, the Macs act up too. But not nearly as much.

Many lemmings end up buying Wintel machines, usually to their regret, when they get the news about periferals.
