I very much doubt it. Lucent just announced a carrier class remote
access concentrator. They do not need Ascend. In fact now Ascend
has a lot of competition in the high end of the RAS market. Their
fumble with the TNT has really cost them big time.

Newspaper Reports Lucent Expected To Acquire Livingston Enterprises
Oct. 15, 1997

The Livingston acquisition is almost certain to to be a cash deal, the newspaper said, because Lucent is prohibited from using more favorable pooling-of-interest accounting until next October due to rules regarding its spinoff from AT&T.
