Yahoo Sees Sales & Marketing At 60% Of 1Q Revenue

03/16/98 : 13:06 PM
Federal Filings Newswires

FORM 10Q PERIOD ENDED: 12/31/97
SEC RCVD DATE: 03/16/98

ISSUER: YAHOO! INC.
SYMBOL: YHOO

WASHINGTON (FFBN) -- Yahoo Inc. expects sales and marketing
expense to decrease to 60% of first quarter revenue and continue to
lower over the remainder of 1998.

Yahoo spent 65% of revenues or $43.9 million on this expense
category in 1997 and 77% or $15.1 million on it in 1996.

The company also expects product development expense to
remain at the 1997 level of 17% of net revenues.

------------

Looks like Sales and Marketing expenses for this quarter will remain at the same as last quarter (60%) although less than last year.
The product development expenses are actually up from last quarter.
So - unless they have more revenues this quarter than last quarter, their earnings will be level with last quarter. If their revenues are more, they'll show higher profits.

Any other comments from anyone else ?

With the expected growth rates for the industry leader(YHOO), they had better make those investments if they want to remain #1. And I don't think anyone is giving anything away here. WCOM/MCI and YHOO will both benefit in this deal by creating enormous synergies in the not to distant future. Watch and see what happens.
