Dear BK - it is commonly known that LU's pooling of interest restriction is due by Oct 98. It seems to be also UBSS's basis of analysis:

Message 3729455

I think the analysis is decent. Incidentally, awhile back, when LU bought OCTL, it was precisely the argument I ve used regarding LU's desire for installed base that would very much rule out the bit players. However, since Nokia has scooped up Ipilson and BAY is extending her hand to ERICY, I think the [potential] matchups will become extremely interesting - if one chooses to do mental gymnastics <VBG> Personally, I think only traders and/or arbitrageurs should play stks for takeover game or rumor of such. Even they will get burnt, considering the lack of premium in many situations. This is what briefing.com call takeunder, like what ALL did to XO.

Just my 2 shares <g>

Many reasons IMHO-

LU has good products in the mid-range switch market to compete with ASND 500.

Also LU bought Livingston which has given them some remote access.

Bay would provide them with products from shared LAN hubs and switches (frame, tr, cell, and frame to cell)to small to big iron routers which would seem to be the whole gambit when combined with thier current products.

Centillion is a GREAT ATM product and will soon get better with OC-12. Much superior to LU Agile crap.

Contrary to some discussions on this thread that may lead one to infer that Bay is weak in Remote Access that is BS. The Verselar product can provide over 2000 dial up ports in a 9' rack with support for async or digital and is the ONLY company that can provide K56 and X2 support in one box. They are weak in market share but have a great product. Gee, where have I heard that before?
