I don't know if I'd call it chicken, but it plays out the same way.

Unfortunately, the only times I've seen this played out in the business world, the battle took a very long time to resolve, typically the loser was put out of business, and the winner was so bloodied that it needed outside financial help to get back on its feet.

The way I see it is that Venezuela can't back down, and the Saudis won't give in as long as they think they can outlast the Venezuelans. The solution: The Saudis cut production to save the day, with an agreement that they get an even higher quota when supply and demand come back into balance. Unfortunately, the cheaters would boost their own production at that point, and the Saudis know it. So -- back to square one.
