>FWIW, the baby-bell in my neck of the woods, US West, appears to have finally started offering internet access -- $19.95 unlimited, and stressing 24 hour phone support, i.e., customer service. Advertising seems pretty aggressive right out of the gate, with lots of TV and radio ads the past few days.<

But this is what I do not understand....The most expensive cost of running an ISP is the local telecom charges, no? If that is the case, why wouldn't the owner of the local lines be able to come up with a more competitive price if they truly wanted to gain market share? Let's face it, once someone leaves AOL they ain't ever going back. So why aren't these wannabies trying a little harder? (Note: Bell Atlantic, the RBOC in my area also charges $19.95.)
