MS VJ 6 is not competition for JBuilder. It is competition for Delphi and BCB. VJ6 is a windows only tool because it is tied to Win32 via the WFC and because it natively supports COM and not Beans. In contrast, JB is pure Java and WORA, to the extent that anything is. I am a die-hard Delphi developer, but am giving strong consideration to using VJ6 for future win32 projects primarily because the java VM gives CPU independence. I recently had to port an application to MSVC from Delphi because of the lack of support for the WinCE CPUs. CE and NT both now run on non-x86 CPUs, and it will become increasingly important that win32 apps can be compiled for them.
