>Good search engines are not easy to build
I overstated my point. Yes, good search engines are not easy to build, and they do include some proprietary algorithms. My point is that the algorithms are far from unique, so that if one engine uses algorithm a and another one algorithm b, there are still c, d, ..., x,y,and z. They may not be as efficient, but all they have to be is at least as efficient as the throughput to the user, which is biggest bottleneck. Once I have an algorithm, the building and populating of the engine is not rocket science. It is not easy, but it is mainly sweat equity -- not in the same league as developing leapfrog technology. Having said that, I am still long on SEEK. But I'm hedged with some Yahoo as well. I expect to have to grit my teeth through a big time correction over the next several months.
