<<Another Intel competitor (IDT) in mfg pact with IBM:>>

This is a very good news for IDT. It will not be a problem for IBM to make this chip. It is a 4M layer process with bonding pad very much like the Pentium process. The die is small so the yield will be very high. The problem is that IDT is having a hard time to get high speed distribution in the 220MHz range. IBM process is unlike to improve the situation unless they put some efforts in tweeking the process. IBM will make alot of C6 for IDT. The question remains is that can IDT sell everything they make when they manufacture in quantity of 1-4M per quarter? They need to have a tier 1 customer to adopt them.

On another page, IBM and CPQ are very successful pushing AMD chips through the North America distribution channels. Now there are 6-7 models of K6 from K6-200 to K6-266 at CompUSA, Best Buys, Office Max, etc. including a nice Compaq K6-233 notebook. This number comprises about 10-15% of the total computer demo models and are competing well with the Intel models. My friends AMD has broken the monopoly market of Intel. I predict AMD will be a force to be reckoned.

Petz , re. IDT and AMD's 3D instructions
This sounds like the Beta/VHS and the MCA scenarios are repeating themselves . To the displeasure of all these dumb intellectuals.
