On a different topic, KABC news in Los Angeles reported tonight (11:00 p.m.) that Disney is considering buying Apple. I know that it is a week old rumor, but thought it was interesting that it made a local newscast the night before Jobs is speaking. Who knows...

Eric, I never accused Apple tech of rigging benchmarks, Apple marketing yes, just like Intel marketing does. By selecting from a large repertoire of benchmarks you can find parameters that can be used to show one system or another to advantage. When you are testing across processors it is harder to get a level playing field. Magazine articles are notorious for this. With Wintel machines you have the same problem, but it is easier to standardize all the other equipment like motherboards etc. And the marketers drop a word or two to use this benchmark as it show the real speed of our product. Look up banchmark scams, there have been dozens of them. With a mixture how do you standardize? If you make a standard test that gives the same results with a 300Mhz G3 as a 300 Mhz P-II, do you then have a fair standard? Or are you expecting an Intel or a G3 to be faster for some reason due to either faster hard wired code or better operating systems? It is strange that the systems of the advertisers seem to be at the head of the pack? What intrinsic advantage does a 300 Mhz G3 have over a 300Mhz P-II. Larger cache, yes, better hard wired code ?, less heat, yes. What else? I have never ever seen any tech basis in your commentary. Bill

Hi Eric , S. Jobs' smoked CPQ's best with a G3 Today's posts during Jobs' Seybold presentation confirms these bears or "cranks" are clueless and not worth a response . The true speed test is comparison of timings running the same application and today the G3 won hands down against a CPQ 6100 : messages.yahoo.com@m2.yahoo.com Doesn't hurt to optimize your OS for your hardware and this is the clear advantage AAPL (PowerPC) will have over INTC (inside) for the future .
