Ditchdigger,

Generally swabbing units are used to swab the well in upon perforation, acidizing, or fracing. It is used to determine if the well will flow on its own or not. They are also used to try to bring a flowing well back to life if it has loaded up (hydrostatic pressure greater than formation pressure). If a well continues to load up it is more cost effective to install a pump jack. The well may continue to flow at times but the pumpjack will keep it from loading up.

Generally there is little formation damage due to swabbing because you actually put a suction on the formation at wellbore.

The type of portable swabbing units they feature in their pictures are generally used for daily swab runs on low volume wells. You swab the capacity of the casing, 5-10 bbl, then let the well sit until to tommorrow. I don't have any way of looking at the well logs so it is hard to determine the well characteristics( porosity, water saturation, permeability).

I hope this helps in any way
