Well, I don't personally know really about their integrity (the lawsuits will decide that), but Iomega Management's hatred of NY and Wall Street was clearly evident. A popular Western US mindset (I'm from Texas-- now in NYC) is that NY and Wall Street are things to be loathed. It is evident that KE and Iomega management refused to play the game, and kiss up to those who needed kissing up to. Pride before riches. Well, I guess they kept their pride. And now Wall Street shorts keep the riches.

NY and Utah are polar opposites in virtually every way. It is conceivable that this conflict of personality and attitudes cost IOM investors literally $ Billions.

BTW, I'm looking for the inevitable Dead Cat Bounce. Maybe today I can pounce.

Jock, your opinion of IOM's management is shared by many but your statement about it's product line can not be supported by the facts.

IOM's product line is not a failed attempt to become the leading supplier of removable storage systems. It can only be said that sales are flat, marketing expenses are up, and profits are down for this quarter. If these 3 conditions were precursors to failure than I doubt there would be a single company listed on any of the exchanges.

Your statements appear to assume that the market for removable storage can not sustain IOM's growth or that some other company with some other product can do a much better job.

Every quarter good or bad, IOM pulls further and further away from all known and future would-be competitors. The big prize for the leading removable storage provider lies in the future. There is much more market penetration to be achieved. Fundamentally, I think IOM is the clear favorite to maintain it's leading position and arrive at the promised land.

Sony may try to muscle in but it won't be easy for them either on the consumer side or the OEM side. They would have a long way to go to get the kind of compatibility and brand equity that IOM currently enjoys. It didn't happen overnight for IOM and I doubt it would for Sony either. And IOM didn't have an installed base of over 12mil to compete with.

Assuming that management makes changes as needed to correct for this quarter's disappointing results I think It's a little too early to be engraving their epitaph.
