Oracle Ships Oracle(R) Payment Server 1.0 Offering Complete Electronic
Commerce Payment Solution

Software Enables Payment-Integrated Applications to Help Businesses
Solve Standards, Security
and Integration Issues

LOS ANGELES, March 11 /PRNewswire/ -- At Internet World today, Oracle
Corp., the leading provider of software to
allow business to move to the Web, announced the general availability of
Oracle(R) Payment Server 1.0. Oracle Payment
Server is an integrated payment processing solution designed to help Web
site developers speed the development and
deployment of complete electronic commerce applications.

Oracle Payment Server provides flexible and powerful payment processing
functionality for integration with commerce
applications, enabling businesses to leverage new or existing technology
and automate transaction processes. The server is
bundled with popular third-party payment systems from ICVERIFY and
CyberCash that support credit cards and electronic
cash.

''We're seeing an explosion of corporations searching for complete, end-to-
end solutions to support their electronic
commerce needs,'' says John Vaughan, executive vice president, PORT
Consulting. ''As an Oracle authorized reseller, we
recognize this as a tremendous opportunity to offer them superior products
that enable electronic commerce. For example, we
utilize Oracle Payment Server, often in conjunction with other Oracle
products, because it supports an architecture for both
client/server and Web environments. The open APIs and standards-based
programming truly promote the growth of the
industry.''

''Oracle Payment Server provides businesses and application developers
with a simple, clearly-defined way to add electronic
payment capabilities to their current information systems and Internet
presence,'' said Beatriz Infante, senior vice president of
the Application Server Division at Oracle. ''Combined with our Internet
Commerce Server software, Oracle provides both
complete and modular solutions for customers to implement a successful
electronic commerce environment.''

Oracle Payment Server 1.0 is a Java cartridge deployed on Oracle's award-
winning Web Application Server 3.0. Oracle
Web Application Server 3.0 allows organizations to run and manage
applications efficiently on a single server, rather than on
hundreds or thousands of desktop PCs.

Key Payment Server features include:

Rules-Based Payment Routing: Oracle Payment Server includes a robust,
rules-based payment routing capability. This
feature allows businesses and merchants to configure Payment Server to
directly reflect their business operations, rules
and procedures. For example, a merchant company could simultaneously
route all VISA transactions to the ICVERIFY
cartridge, all transactions under $10 to the CyberCoin cartridge, and
transactions made by a large contracted customer
to be processed within that company's own financial application.
Easy Application Integration: Oracle Payment Server provides a single
application programming interface (API), along
with sample code, to integrate Payment Server's transaction processing
services into existing or new Internet or
client/server applications. The Payment Server API hides the complexity of
payment processing from the application
developer and functions in exactly the same manner regardless of the
payment processing system or payment method
used, preventing the complex and lengthy integration typically required to
interface separately with each payment
system. The Payment Server Administration GUI allows businesses and
merchants to quickly and easily add, remove or
modify the payment processing systems without changing the underlying
commerce application code. Payment Server
also provides an open payment API that allows regional or country-specific
payment mechanisms to be easily integrated
with any commerce application.
Transaction Security: Oracle Payment Server incorporates security features
such as Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) 3.0
for encryption and server-side Secure Electronic Transaction (SET) support
via implemented payment systems. Oracle
Payment Server also leverages the industry's most advanced security
measures incorporated within Oracle's data server,
application server and client software. This includes user authentication and
database authorization features, which
natively support encrypted user names and passwords.
Single and Multiple Site Support: Oracle Payment Server supports single
commerce sites or client/server applications,
as well as multiple-site installations commonly hosted by Internet Service
Providers. These multiple- site installations can
offer common or individualized payment system support to their clients.

Product Availability

Included in the Oracle Payment Server bundle is the Oracle Payment Server
1.0 cartridge, Oracle Web Application Server
3.01, a restricted-use license of the Oracle7(TM) release 7.3.3 Enterprise
Edition data server, the ICVERIFY payment
system cartridge, and CyberCash Cash Register (Credit and Coin)
cartridge, the latter of which supports both customer- and
merchant-oriented transactions. Oracle Payment Server is also certified for
Oracle8(TM) release 8.0.3 Enterprise Edition data
server.

The product currently includes limited SET support for both authorized (pay)
and captured transactions. Full SET support is
planned for June, 1998 with Oracle Payment Server version 1.1. Oracle
