I agree with you Rock, that the best engine will not win the race. I think yhoo is making a bold move out of the search engine business and into the media/content business, where perhaps the real money will ultimately be found. I do not think seek has any potential to do the same, yet. On the other hand, it may be that yhoo's move opens the door in the search engine biz to the smaller rivals to fill the gap. Less competition may bode well for the second tier companies. Having a loyal home base would certainly change the way we view eyeballs, but I think the day of advertiser generated revenues being sufficient is past, so the number of eyeballs isn't enough either. I believe that real estate generated revenues, transaction fees from retail sales plus ad. rev's is the future.

BTW, while I don't think I come anywhere near posting 40+ times in a week, I'm doing my darndest here. :-)
