Thanks for the article - where was this published?

The issue of employee displacement is a touchy one - Intel has to shut down parts of the Fab to do the refurbishment.

Since that Fab was made (mid to late 1980s), Intel has improved their fabs with quite a bit of process and material flow automation. Putting in these new capabilities will inevitably result in a lower man/woman power requirement - but increased productivity.

It would appear Intel is trying to minimize the pain of this transition for the employees affected.
