I wonder how Netscape has benefited from the Java strategy. They had
their own api's (Internet Foundation Classes if I recall correctly)
and were regarded as a internet pioneer. Then Netscape sort of just
handed the ball over to Sun or Sun took it away from them (I'm not
sure which). I mean does anybody still read Andreesens tech column
anymore?

Anyways, now Sun has the java webserver and ebeans architecture in the
works. I think Netscape got fed up with Java and realized they have
been taken for a sucker by IBM and Sun.

IMO, Sun is just as much responsible for Netscape's woes as is
Microsoft.

What the hell
was the deal with spinning off Actra and then folding it back in

Actually, Actra was a joint venture between Netscape and GEIS. Netscape gained lots of valuable EDI and E-Commerce experience of GEIS that they would not have had if it was done in-house.

I won't even go into their ineptness in maximizing
profits with THE NUMBER ONE INTERNET SITE (giving the keys away to Yahoo essentially).

I don't think you know what you are talking about. Even though Yahoo has more traffic to its site, Netscape has managed to translate their website into much more profits than Yahoo has.
