Couple of observations that may have caused this emotional selloff with Ascend. 1) There was something in the air that Soundview was downgrading a networker. Usual suspects like COMS, BAY and ASND started getting hit. When will Cisco's statements in its 10 Q written in black and white that future growth is going to slow considerably as the company transitions into lower margin (compared to routers) products like switches (layer3 , Gigabit etc.) take effect is a mystery to me. When all seems calm and secure with a stock that is the turning point from experience. 2) DJ Newswire just flashed a headline : Secure computing discovers security flaw in Ascend Comm hardware You and I know from yesterday what the hell this is all about but the fat momentum player never reads SI and Yahoo, he just sees his terminal where this news hit him later than us (Love the Internet). When both the above points were rendered moot (BAY is actually rallying now ... Jeez) ASND is snapping back. When will the momentum players and shorts read Ascends response to the problem is to be seen but the response is a slap on any network engineers face. KNOW THE BASICS AND READ THE F*****G MANUAL YOU MORON! But then Wall Street only knows money and earnings and growth rates and marketing hypes etc etc.... Does Cisco have a stake in Secure Computing ???? Hmmmm... -hitesh
