John
it seems that AMDs roadmap is not clear. All of the deals would depend on that. I would speculate that since ibm deal is for 2 years then it is not only for k6.
fab 30 is supposed to have .18um process when it would come on line, if I remember it correctly. I am not sure if it would be ibm's copper though.

P,
Re -- Basically, the info on the IDT/IBM deal is more specific

make that somewhat specific according to AMD.

Petz and John,

re: "The more the merrier.."

You gotta be kidding! IBM just legitimized the C6+. Heck Centaur couldn't even be sued over the chips that IBM manufactures for IDTI. I would assume that AMD and IDTI got roughly the same fab deals, and that their chips will be made using the same or similar IBM process technology. The C6+ should have the same FP MMX instructions that the K6 3D has, and, I would expect, less than 10% less overall performance. But, since the C6+ should yield better than the K6 3D, IDTI will price it lower and keep severe pricing pressure on AMD. This is terrible news for AMD. But, it really is a moot point. IBM won't start cranking out chips for AMD and IDTI until the fourth quarter. Right about the same time that Cyrix introduces the MXi. This chip has the potential to knock everything but the Merced, K7, and Cyrix's own M3 (if they decide to offer a non-integrated high performance chip) out of the x86 compatible market. The K7 better be good or AMD's CPU days are numbered.
