>>I don't see sparQ fair any better than zip.<<

Right now, there is a 6 week backorder on SparQ. Each one of these SparQs that are shipped represents potentially one Jaz or Zip+ that doesn't sell.

If Syquest planned to try and sell as many SparQs as Zips, than they would have problems. But sales of this magnitude are not necessary for Syquest to survive- nay, SYQT stock will be rewarded if sales only steal a smallish percentage away from Iomega. SparQ is ramping up as we speak. Boosting Zip's capacity to 200MB won't help much. Syquest already squashed that. Will customers buy a $199 Zip200 when a $199 1 Gig SparQ is already on the shelves?

The real news is still pending. The Nomai case is generating mucho interest, not because of little Nomai itself, but because if they win then this opens the floodgates to any number of companies offering their own Zip discs. How hard can it be to do a little re-tooling to make a 3 3/4" plastic case?
