are you suggesting that since that the sub1K market adds to earnings for OEMs, and since Dell is not participating in this mkt then this will take away from earnings?????

Think about this. Why did Packard Bell never go public??? A privately held company (owned by 10 or 12 folks) they went from nowhere to the number three mfg in the world almost overnight, and the owners couldn;t find a way to cash out with IPO. hmmmmmm, (hint they never made a dime!!!)

I'd say this, if you couldn't make money in the first time consumer mkt in 1994-1997, then it would be even harder to make money in this market in 1998 and 1999

IMO Dell is doing its shareholders a favor (as they always seem to do)
by ignoring this market and focusing on more profitable mkt segments.
