Do not under estimate the power of the short position. With one third of the stock short, you can imagine they are going to fight like hell to keep the price down.

INCA and ISLD are not market makers. This guy doesn't know how to read a level II screen. INCA is instanet and both INCA and ISLD are merely electronic trading systems. The person/institution trading on these systems is unknown--all you see is INCA or ISLD on the bid or ask side. Based on todays day trading I think that this is what happened: the MCA news caused early buying/buy orders. The impatient traders who bought in below 11 1/2 saw the upward momentum end at 12 and then they sold out their long positions resulting in a price drop to 11 3/16. After this occured there was a steady accumulation by individuals/institutions using INCA or ISLD. I agree with the remark about the institutions accumulating this stock at current prices. OLDE was the MM on the BID most of the afternoon along with INCA/ISLD orders. Smith Barney was on the ask most of the afternoon. One can't tell if Smith Barney was selling or shorting. I think he was shorting on the ask to keep the price down and at the same time he was buying by biding on INCA or ISLD. I have been day trading/watching VVUS on ATTAIN for months now. I have a good feel for wich MMs are prior shorts who are covering. Merril Lynch holds the greatest number of vivus shares last time I checked in December. I think that the MMs indeed do want to get the longs disgruntled so that they will sell out at these ridiculously low prices. This stock is definately controlled/manipulated by the MMs/institutions who already have large long and short positions. IMO I think we will see a gradual slow uptrend now. It took 3 weeks to go from 11's to 15's and 6 weeks to go down from 15's to 11's. I expect the uptrend to be very slow and steady. I think most of the little guys who want out are out now--this is going to result in a gradual shortage of vivus shares to be bought so the institutions will either have to continue shorting to keep the price down OR start biding up the price if they want to continue accumulating. Remember, its AFTER all the accumulating at these prices that the upgrades occur. Expect some upgades announced ASA the price moves up again. Good luck longs--be patient--the fear of single digits is now history.
