Did you say "is" or "isn't". Dell is happy customer of STB so far.

There are lots of competitors out there but ATI still able to grip a good size of share because it has the perfect mix of product at the right price. First class driver and s/w (don't you like the excellent ATI Media Player), above average performance, cheap TV-Tuner, PC2TV, first class mpeg playback and h/w assist DVD playback.

The only problem is how long can ATI maintains this competitive advantage? Will it follow the old track of Mach64? Probably not because the good mgt now ATI has but due to the intense competition in the industry ATI may not able to enjoy the same profit as it did in last 1 1/2 years. Intel is watching, SIII is struggling but still has the potential. 3DFx, Nvidia are also working hard.

Good Luck

John, Sorry, I can't talk about future earnings. The best I can do is point to analyst estimates that appear in this thread above. Clearly there has been historic cyclicality to ATI's business. We'll see if it holds.

Regarding Dell, yes they are a customer. The specific Dell models are:
OptiPlex GXa Managed PC
OptiPlex NX Net PC

The Optiplex line is Dell's high volume corporate PC line, which typically is advertised less and sold direct, as compared to the Dimension line, which sells to SOHO user base. More or less. ATI ships with all the PII Optiplex machines. We are very proud of these design wins. See:

Estimates were in the 50 cent range for first quarter.

IIRC, one of the officers (CFO?) said that Q2 would be similar to Q1.
I can't find the reference though.
