Mark, Yes I do not believe that flip chip varieties will replace traditional semiconductor chips. Flip chips are more expensive, and thus will be used where size, miniaturization is important.

And yes, infrastructure is important- check out the October article I posted to Dennis S. At the end is a discussion of the flip chip equipment manufacturers- and earlier in the article is a discussion of most other types of support service/products necessary to make flip chips to become available in mass production...
