Shares of Integrated Device Technology gained Tuesday after the company
said it had signed a deal through which International Business Machines will
manufacture the company's low-cost microprocessors.

Shares of IDT rose as much as 1 5/16 before settling back with a gain of
9/16 to 15 in afternoon trading. Meanwhile, the Nasdaq Composite Index
was down 11.80 to 1776.40, while Morgan Stanley's high-tech 35 index
was down 9.20 to 517.20.

Jonathan Joseph, an analyst at NationsBanc
Montgomery Securities, said the deal with IBM
adds credibility to IDT's efforts to develop
chips to compete with the Intel
microprocessors that run most Windows-based
personal computers.
