Re: MSFT R&D; SP500 Target

Well I'm all for software R&D. Let's hope something useful comes out of that effort. My unresearched opinion is that you have severely diminishing returns to scale in R&D ... you have more direct experience with it GM, what do you think?

Then again, the GUI came from Xerox PARC ...

Gates said:
"We spend the highest percentage of our revenue on R&D of any company in the United States of any size"

That's encouraging. I applaud that attitude. Microsoft is probably the most un-lax monopoly in history.

"I borrowed the 'Auto PC' for a weekend and got very frustrated when it didn't understand my voice very well," he said.

EXCELLENT! This means that he'll either can the project or kick them in the butt to make progress. At least Gates shares my vision of a speech enabled computing future. Not like the other guys, whatstheirname? Intel. Dopes.

I don't put much stock in indices, and less in index targets. Let those analysts fart wind, we'll be reaping gains from PC equities for the rest of our lives.

God bless,
