Gordon,

Brown and Co. allows it up to a certain portion of the net value of the IRA account (25%?) I know of no other broker that allows this.

Gordon, different companies have different rules. Many do not allow options, unless it's selling covered calls on the underlying stock. Fidelity Investments is one that does allow purchases of options (puts, calls, LEAPS, etc.). Hope this helps.

An IRA is always a cash account. Thus you are unable to short stocks, which require a margin account.

Gordon, I think you are stuck with buying a mutual fund that shorts.
