Warthog: what an eye opener! Even I had trouble believing his points initially... but in the end I found the article to be very well-researched. Thanks for the informative post.

I guess it explains why IT placement firms are not generating very big margins. The best I could find has been Syntel (SYNT) which imports a lot of its workers from India, with an 11 percent net profit margin.

Other IT placement firms and their margins:

WHIT............ 7.4%
MAST.............4.7%
CBSL..............6.0%

Any other IT placement company margins worth looking at, or are these typical?

Whoa, this is a highly slanted report. Do not take this for face value. Wait, Wait. Before you ask me why. I just browsed it for a couple of minutes and saw a lot of glaring issues that would cloud his statistics. I WILL be digging into it deeper with some of my own research and provide my POV later.

Notice that his hiring statistics came from major software houses. These are NOT the majority of the types of companies that use search firms. Let's try adding in, to name a very few, Telcos, Insurance Co., Finance Co (banks, exchanges, etc), Start-ups, Out-sourcing, YA DA YA DA YA. The list goes on. Now, lets add in all of the other NON programming jobs such as DBA's, Testing, Documentation, Human Factors, Sys Admins, Project Managers, Sales people, Help desks, YA DA YA DA YA. The list goes on

AND THIS IS JUST IT/IS INDUSTRY, Add in Medical, Finance, Executive, YA DA YA DA YA. The list goes on.

I am a Chief Software Architect, a partner in a search firm, strictly a contractor/consultant, over 35, not a foreign national, I've got a little bit of first hand knowledge.
