>>>if Java is considered a language, then every tools vendor has the right to adopt it to their respective frameworks (AFC, WFC, Swing)<<<

Not quite right, Sunil. People have this confusion about languages because many have been made public domain. Others are licensed, like Java, and licensees must abide by the terms. In addition, Java is trademarked. I think what MSFT is hoping for is not to be stopped in the short term, during which much damage will be done to Java portability. Just how stupid are J++ developers when it comes to portability? Remains to be seen.

If you think this is unfair, do you want to hear about what MSFT would do to abusers of its compiled Basic runtime licenses (mucho bucks *per end user* in those days to good old MSFT) back in the 80's? Their whining about restrictions now in light of the advantage they took of developers using MSFT languages back then is ridiculous.

>>>if it is considered an operating environment, then what's the DOJ doing siding with a potential competitor of MSFT !<<<

What it is supposed to. Ensuring a competitive environment and reining in the 5000 pound gorilla. You have to understand, once you are effectively a monopoly, the law says you don't get to play under the same rules as everyone else, because the size alone is too much of an advantage on an otherwise level playing field. Think of it as being promoted to heavyweight, and not being able to compete in welterweight any more.

Cheers,
Chaz
