Hmm, very interesting point about the 2nd homes. What you say points to a profound economic trend. Hmm, you've got me thinking!

Historically, wealth per capita has risen dramatically over the past 200 years in every democratic nation on earth. Furthermore, and wailings of liberal-socialist types aside, the distribution of income has flattened dramatically in parallel.

I will mention two facts:
1. The advent of labor assisting/automating technologies like telephones, dishwashers, refrigerators.
2. Decline in employment of household servants in industrialized nations, partly as a result of No. 1.

The refrigerator and the dishwasher were certainly killer apps in their day.

This is such an interesting topic that I'm adding it to my queue of subjects for expanding into a complete article, which I will post to my site when done and let ya know.
