Every quarter the fund managers have to sell two things so they can show their performance: the dogs and the ones that rocked up and look like a short term top. As a general rule, they start about 2 weeks before the end of the month. Then there are the fund managers that have cash and are looking for a great spot to get in on a deal they thought they missed. Volume on the NASDAQ is, as a "general rule", about 2X the volume if that same stock was traded on the NYSE.
